Day # 9 On The Plan

Friday June 5th, 2009 – My morning weight is up +.6 @ 182.8

Total of: -7.2 lbs. in 8 Days

Yesterday I started my day with coffee… 3 strong cups before 9am and it took its toll on me the entire day!  My hunger levels were bad even after eating my TSFL meals every 2 hours.  I attribute my high hunger levels to my over indulgence of caffeine! To cut the hunger I drank tons of water, and it showed up this morning on the scale.  I’m ok with this. It’s to be expected from time to time.  I also learned my lesson and will be more careful.

Today I was doing ok until my afternoon appointments ran back to back. I knew at one point I needed to eat so I grabbed a TSFL bar and a diet soda and it carried me over until I got home for dinner.  I had one of those head aches from waiting too long to eat. It  went away after I had dinner, a couple of aspirins, and a neck massage! It’s amazing what whining can get you after 33 years of marriage. (LOL)

Day# 8 On The Plan

Thursday June 4th 2009 – My morning weight is 182.2

Down .9 from yesterday making my 1st week on the program a huge success!

First Week Down:  -7.8 lbs

“Never” have I eaten all day long for one week straight and lost 7.8 pounds! I am blown away… In my mind, the little voice says… Other people have this kind of success, not me. But this is me. And I did do this. It’s real!  And a little bit surreal too.

Looking back at my first week I learned a lot about the basics of the TSFL program specifically some do’s and don’ts that I need to be mindful of going forward, for example:

  • Do schedule meals every 2 to 3 hrs – This will help me stay on track and avoid  from getting hungry late in the day.
  • Do get in the 8 glasses of water. I now start early in the day – first thing after I brush my teeth I get in 2 glasses of water while I’m getting ready. I also fill up a container and drink more water on my drive into work.
  • Do track meals, water, and hunger level throughout the day.
  • Do get in at least 4 TSFL meals by 5pm. My goal is still 5 by 5pm.
  • Do eat one lean and green meal a day – Don’t split it up. At least for the first week. I did, and it slowed me down for about three days by eating egg whites for breakfast.  Then having trouble getting all 5 TSFL meals eaten within a reasonable time.

I may have to rethink my 5 week weight loss goal. Originally my goal was 15 pounds over the 5 weeks. The possibility of exceeding this is very high! Typically I come in short of my weight loss goals and have to settle for a loss that’s ok – not great.  Now I’m actually thinking… I can do better than the 15 lbs I initially set out for. I like this. It’s very motivating and makes me want to dial-in the program and keep it going.

On to week # 2  Here I come… Ready & Excited!

Day #7 On The Plan

Wednesday June 3rd 2009 – My morning weight is 183.1

Down 2.1 pounds this morning! My 6 day total is – 6.9 lbs

I had the feeling I was going to drop a few pounds this morning and I did. Hallelujah! I blew past 185, and 180 is looking closer by the day. I’m feeling confident.

Yesterday my goal was to get 5 TSFL meals in by 5pm, then dinner and a snack if I needed one in the evening. I planned water for in between meals, and let me just say… that kept me moving. I was able to get 4 of the 5 TSFL meals in by 5pm and the 5thafter an evening walk with my husband and 2 year old springer spaniel on the trail at Lake Natoma.

They say and I agree that… “the key to success is doing what works over and over again”. My plan today is to get 5 TSFL meals in by 5pm and drink my water during the day.  I am planning my meal times and tracking when and what I eat. I am also aware of my full/hunger levels through out the day.  On a scale of 1 to 5, one being “Full” and five being “Hungry” my goal is to keep in the 2 to 4 range thorough out the day.

My challenge today was a business lunch at a pizza parlor!!!! Thank goodness for salad bars… because that’s what I ate and a TSFL Bar. Let me just say for the record – I looked away from the pizza buffet bar as I got my lunch. But as I walked out – I did breath in deeply several times to take in the aroma of hot pizza.  It smelled really good, but not good enough to break my program. I’d say that’s a gold star for me!

Day# 6 On The Plan

Tuesday June 2nd 2009 – My morning weight is 185.2  I stayed the same this morning.  My 5 day total is – 4.8 lbs

I must admit is wanted to see those .2 pounds gone this morning, but I’ll need to be patient… I know they will come off soon!

This morning I changed my routine up a bit. My plan is to eat all 5 of my TSFL meals by 5 pm and get more water in early in the day. I decided this because yesterday you may recall, I was daydreaming about grilled potatoes (yikes) on my drive home… I reasoned out that my hunger had dipped below where it should be.  I had been saving 2 meals plus dinner for after 5pm and frankly this is too much food and way too late in the day to be eating.  From today on my routine is to have all 5 TSFL meals consumed by 5ish, and then dinner by 7ish.  I can still have an optional snack if I find I am in the kitchen looking… you know what I mean. I’ll let you know how this works.

Day # 5 On The Plan

Monday June 1, 2009 – My morning weight is 185.2 for a new 4 day total of: -4.8

My first weekend on the program went well. I kept busy which was a big help, but I’d say the key was planning.

Today I had one of those moments where potatoes were calling my name. Grilled with ketchup… then I realized I was driving and snapped out of it. I actually said out loud “not today – later”.  I am sticking to program.  I grilled onions instead and they were perfect.

I am hoping that I’ll lose those .2 pounds by Thursday and hit 185.  If I do great! And if I don’t… that’s OK too.  I just remind myself that in the last 2 ½ year on WW I’ve never dropped this much in one weeks time!

I’m happy to get back to my week day routine and settle back into a schedule.

Thanks for following my journey.

Day # 4 On The Plan

Sunday, May 31, 2009 — Morning weight 185.3 for a new 3 day total of 4.7 lbs.

My challenge today was a River Cats (baseball) game. My typical game menu is a hot dog and lite beer with a bag of kettle corn.  I’ve also been known to have a Caesar salad, but almost always without fail – I have to have a bag of kettle corn, my weakness. I knew the smells would be everywhere, and they were and I had to have a plan before I even left home if I was going to enjoy the game and not give in to old habits.

I can’t stop doing the things I love just because I’m on afraid of falling of the weight loss wagon.

I had spoken to my TSFL Coach early in the day and he gave me a tip I used for the ball park and that was to make a shake and put it in the freezer for an hour.  I took my favorite, the strawberry shake and turned it into slush. It hit the spot.  In the parking lot after the game my husband and I split a couple of hard boiled dilled eggs (just the whites) and a Lemon Meringue Crunch Bar.

I am happy to report 2 victories: Mine & The River Cats. We both won today!

My lesson learned this afternoon is I can do this and live my life at the same time.  It does take planning and a plan to be successful. When it comes right down to it, having a plan is a must for losing weight and investing. It all makes perfect sense.

PS: In total fairness to the gentleman selling Kettle Corn at the game, his nickname is “The Isle Dancer” because for an older person he can shake rattle and roll pretty darn good.  I’m sorry your sales are going down starting today!

Day # 3 On The Plan

My morning weight is down another 2 lbs. at 185.4 For a 2 day total of -4.6

Today (Saturday) I’ve been busy and ran errands for about four hours this afternoon. I planned to have a Lemon Meringue Crunch Bar at 1pm but didn’t get to it until 2:30pm.  By the time I tore it open, I was very hungry and out of steam. I realized how important it is to eat on a tighter schedule of about every 2 ½ to 3 hours.

My TSFL Coach told me when I started the first three days are the hardest. It’s been fairly easy so far… I’m relieved and thankful. He also shared with me that after today (Day 3) my body may go into the “fat burning” stage.  Normally this takes two to five days to achieve. During my first few days on the program I could feel tired, hungry or irritable and /or experience headaches or lightheadedness as my body adjusts.  I did have a headache on my first day.  I figured out it was the reduced intake of daily caffeine. I was used to drinking 6 cups before noon, now its down to 2 cups.

Yesterday and today I’ve monitored my level of hunger and just today I dip into the “hungry zone”.  I waited to long between meals. Also today I felt my energy was taped out by late afternoon and I got so tired I did something I seldom do…I took a nap. It was great!  I feel good now.  Refreshed, not hungry and looking forward to seeing how todays progress will register on the scale in the morning.

He also said that within about 72 hours, as I start to “burn fat”  I’ll feel energized and less hungry – and I’ll get the thrill of seeing results. I say…Bring it on!

Day # 2 On The Plan

My morning weight is 187.4

Down -2.6 within the first 24 hours – WOW!

Day 2 was a bit harder from the stand point I was in and out and very busy and it seemed that every time I looked at my watch, it was time to eat again! Oh poor me. I need to eat 5 of the TSFL meals a day and by 4pm I’d only had 3 plus my 3 eggs white veggie omelet. I knew I was going to get pressed for time in the day to get it all in. Can you imagine being on a weight loss program and worried you still had more meals to fit into your day? Oh the problems of dieters! Not.

Again I must say their bars are amazingly good and easy.  Today I had a vanilla shake and added diet root beer to make a float. It was just heavenly. I don’t feel deprived and I certainly don’t feel like I’m on a diet.  My worry now is how can I lose weight eating all day long?

This evening I wanted to experiment with the microwave again but this time I kept vigil and used Ziploc Zip’n Steam bags to make Tilapia with broccoli. It turned out wonderful. In 8 ½ minutes dinner was ready. Even my husband loved it! I’d seen this on The Biggest Loser and have wanted to give it a try, now I’m hooked.

I am going to bed tonight feeling satisfied and not hungry.

Day #1 On The Plan

My starting weight is 190

Day 1 was easier than I thought it was going to be. It was a snap!

On the inside I was nervous and concerned that I might starve to death and the janitor would find my body famished and laying in withered heap on the floor next to my desk. But it wasn’t that way at all!

I survived! And I enjoyed the day, even with out my half a pot of coffee before noon. I did miss my caffeine rush. The plan only allows for 3 cup of a caffeine drink per day. I kept rereading this part thinking it was 3 cups max per “hour” but nope, it just didn’t – so I conformed.

What surprised me the most was, I liked the food. The strawberry shake was so good for a moment I toyed with the idea of having two! At that point in my day I thought to myself “I’m definitely not a food snob, no wonder I got fat”! I just pain like food and the TSFL give’s convenience diet food a whole new meaning in my dictionary. Which is great!

The problem I did encounter was the oatmeal volcano that erupted in my office microwave.  I did just as the directions said… add 5 oz of water, stir, and microwave for 1 ½ to 2 minutes on high.  The problem is I stepped away, and when I got back the oat meal was spewing, the bowl was way too small, and not deep enough. I made a mess with the oatmeal.  Now for the good news on the oatmeal, what was left was delicious! My only regret was I short changed myself not paying attention and half of it boiled out. All in all if that was the bad part…I figured I was set to go.

So far I’ve tried the oatmeal volcano, the wild rice and chicken soup, their crunchy chewy bars – yum, the strawberry shake which is a must do over it was so good, and the chocolate pudding was just ok not great.

I’m very curious to see how I do on the scale in the morning.

Day 1 of 35 is here!

It’s Thursday morning May 28, 2009 and my day is planned out which only took me about 15 minutes last night to do. I decided to split up my cooked meal and have a typical breakfast of 3 egg whites and hot tea, and eat smaller portion of fish (5.6 oz.) for dinner tonight. 4 of my 5  meals will be eaten at work today about 2 ½ hours apart and they are going to be: oatmeal, soup, shake and a bar. I need 8 – 8 oz. of water and planned them for about 30 minutes after each meal. My last meal is chocolate pudding after dinner.

I figured the WW points on the products and they pretty much all come out as 1 point per meal. So far I found only one that was 2 points. I’m not counting them, but just wanted to see where it stacked up with WW.

My starting weight this morning is 190. (I’m up a couple of lbs. after two weekends of Birthday and Anniversary celebrating)… I wanted to give myself a goal. I really don’t know how my body will react or feel. The average loss is from -2 to -5 a week. I’d be thrilled at 175 but if I drop -10 I’m delighted too! So my goal range is -10 to -15 for the next 35 days. If I do more, great.

Here I go…Joyce
